Saving to My Documents or My Computer

Does it matter whether you use My Documents or My Computer to save a document.

Yes!

My Documents

By default, the My Documents folder is on the hard drive in the computer you are using. Most of the Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 applications save their documents to the My Documents folder.

My Computer

My Computer folder displays all of the storage areas that your computer has access to. This means that the My Computer folder will display both magnetic and optical storage devices, such as hard drives, flash drives and digital memory cards that are magnetic storage devices found in digital cameras. CD and/or DVD players as well as recorders are the optical storage devices displayed in the My Computer window.

What does this mean to you?

It means that if you store documents in the My Documents folder, that document can only be gotten from that computer only. If you have a home network or a network on your job, you can store and retrieve documents from any computer, on a network drive displayed in the My Computer folder, as long as you log into the network, go to that network drive and get the data from that network drive or folder.
